Senior Santa Program
As joyous as the holiday season may be for some, for others it is the loneliest time of year. It is for this reason that each year, Meals on Wheels of Durham strives to provide each meal recipient with a holiday gift. We have been able to touch each client in this small but very meaningful way for the past 3 years only with the help of compassionate community members. We ask that you consider a donation of an inexpensive (under $20) item that can be given as a gift to a needy Durham senior. Suggestions include:
- Umbrella
- Bath robe
- Socks or slippers
- Gift card for a local supermarket or discount store
- Large print puzzle books
- Gloves, mittens, scarves or hats
- Postage stamps and/or stationery
- Long underwear
- Blankets or throw covers
Gift items are gratefully accepted wrapped or unwrapped. We ask that wrapped items be labeled if they are size or gender specific.
If you prefer, monetary donations can be made to the Senior Santa program. 100% of your donation will be used to purchase needed gift items. Make checks payable to Meals on Wheels of Durham, and be sure to write "Senior Santa" in the memo portion of your check.
Donated items of any type may be delivered to the Meals on Wheels office between the hours of 8:30a - 3:00p Monday through Friday. Additional drop off sites may be added throughout the community for your convenience.
Thank you for your support of the Senior Santa Program and Meals on Wheels of Durham!
Meals on Wheels is also glad to accept donations of wrapping supplies like tape, scissors, bows and gift tags. This will help to offset our costs and ensure that there will be a gift for everyone. Thanks to your donations, we do NOT need any more wrapping paper this year! We can always use some extra help with wrapping donated items.
